AkelPad is a small, powerful and expandable text editor, designed to be a replacement for Microsoft® Notepad. It can handle all the jobs that Notepad can and much, much more. While its enhanced command set (compared to Notepad) is likely sufficient in itself to convince a user to use AkelPad, its real power comes from its ability to accept plugins, providing increased capabilities. AkelPad's website provides many such plugins (plus a sample, to create your own1), some with user programmable features! In addition, AkelPad can optionally store all of its settings in an INI file, allowing it to be completely portable.

This is a new download link. Because of the changes in the Sourceforge policy now it is available only on sourcefoge.net
the website directs you to a different update: 197.45 instead of 197.13.
The former was released a few weeks after the latter.
After updating the driver version reads as driver version "6.14.11.9745"
instead of 6.14.12.5715) that Software informer recommends.
Because of similar update dates, my uneducated guess is both releases
offer similar capabilities, but the former will run on XP, where the latter
will work unpredictably.
Installation appears to be successful, but I have not tested out all
capabilities as of this time.
